n this study, undoped and Yb3+, Er3+ co-doped YSGG single crystals were grown successfully by the Czochralski method. The crystal structure and crystalline quality were determined by XRD and XRC, respectively. A theoretical calculation based on density functional theory method was performed on the YSGG and the calculated band structure as well as density of states were presented. The spectroscopic properties of Yb, Er:YSGG crystal were revealed according to the measured absorption spectrum, fluorescence spectrum and fluorescence decay curve. All the obtained results suggest that Yb, Er:YSGG crystal is very promising for realizing 1.55 μm laser with laser diode pumping.
